Rhodolite Garnet

Rhodolite Garnet Gemstone

Garnet is the largest of the gem material families. Owing to its granular form and often associated colors, the term ‘garnet’ is derived from the latin terms for ‘grain’ and the fruit ‘pomegranate’.  In the case of Rhodolite its’ name comes from its resemblance to the flower ‘Rhododendron’ when it first identified in North Carolina in 1882.  Its colors are often associated with the appearance of certain flowers and fruits including  Rhododendron, Roses, Cranberry, Raspberry and Grapes. Rhodolite Garnet results from a combination of both Pyrope or Almandite Garnets. Blossomjewels uses Rhodolite Garnet due to its range of color from alluring Purples to deep Rose Reds.

Garnet is the birthstone for the month of January, and can be used as a wedding anniversary stone to celebrate 2 or 6 years of marriage.

Garnet is the Zodiac stone for Capricorn and is thought to convey the mythical trait of ‘calm’.

Important locations from which Rhodolite Garnet is sourced include North Carolina - USA, Nigeria, India, Tanzania, and Madagascar to name a few. Blossomjewels typically sources its Red Garnet from parts of India or Madagascar.
